The Canberra Racing Club will on Saturday, 18 March 2023 begin the process of installing a brand new Polytrack surface at Thoroughbred Park.
Replicating the root structure of turf, for consistent and forgiving going, the revolutionary all-weather Polytrack surface is designed specifically for horses travelling at high speed. The surface is scientifically proven to minimise the risk of injury for equine athletes and in turn improving rider safety.
Polytrack are the industry leader in synthetic racing surfaces with a global presence. Racing and training tracks in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland are highly valued by horse people and racing Clubs alike.
Canberra Racing Club Chief Executive Darren Pearce said, “The Club is pleased to invest in a Polytrack to support its continued business improvement, improve equine welfare and provide leading facilities for it’s Trainers, riders and horses.”
The state-of-the-art racing and training surface will replace the Acton Track which was installed at Thoroughbred Park in 2007. “The Acton Track has been a good servant for Canberra racing but its now time to replace the track in conjunction with our new partners, Polytrack.” Pearce said.
“This new racing surface will provide Canberra and our region with a world-class, all-weather racing surface throughout the cooler months of the year and a safe & consistent training surface all-year round.”
“The Polytrack is planned to be fully installed by mid-May which will enable us to carry out a thorough renovation on the turf course-proper to have it in prime condition for Spring and Summer racing.”
“The horse is the focus of everything we do here at Thoroughbred Park and the installation of a brand new Polytrack will deliver a racing and training surface that is a leader in safety for our equine athletes whilst allowing a thorough renovation for our main turf track.”
